The oddity of a proprietary advantage for mainstream fusion

It should seem curious that a private concern could hold a proprietary advantage for a fusion power system that is essentially mainstream. The reason that FPC does have this advantage goes to the heart of the fitful process that the world has been undergoing—for three score and ten years—to civilize nuclear energy. Energy is at the nexus of wealth and power: the blood of the body economic and politic. When better choices involve change that threatens existing power structures, decisions are weighted in favor of the latter at the expense of the former. Numerous prestigious voices have deplored the fact that this is the case regarding heavy ion fusion. Ultimately, change must occur within the power structures. The proprietary advantages provide FPC with a long lever to pry the various parties involved into motion.
